Next-Gen Wafer Processing

Our client’s newest wafer design didn’t fit the mold — literally. Learn how Ship in Six developed a custom robotic solution with advanced motion control, enhancing efficiency and accelerating their time to market.

Our client is a leader in manufacturing advanced processing systems — specializing in equipment for semiconductor production. With a focus on maximizing efficiency and precision, their systems are trusted across the industry.

THE NEED

Tailored Robotics for Proprietary Wafer Designs

The client faced a unique challenge when their new proprietary wafer design required a specialized robotic solution. Off-the-shelf robots couldn’t handle the design constraints, pushing them to seek a custom system that would:

  • Fit within a compact footprint.
  • Function effectively inside a vacuum chamber, without the use of rubber components.
  • Deliver improved cycle times for greater operational efficiency.

Having worked with our team on similar challenges, they knew they could rely on us to find a solution.

THE SOLUTION

From Concept to Control

Loupe developed the software mechanics of the robotic system, including the motion control and a custom API to seamlessly connect the robot to their existing Windows-based control infrastructure. To ensure flawless integration, we also built a digital twin of the system — allowing the client to simulate and validate the system in a virtual environment before physical deployment.

“Building the digital twin upfront gave the client essential validation and simplified integration, letting them focus on process while we handled motion control.”

Loupe also provided hands-on training, ensuring their team could operate the machine confidently, even without in-house robotics expertise.

THE RESULT

A New Era of Efficiency

The collaboration resulted in a custom-built robotic system capable of handling their proprietary wafers — improving cycle times and maximizing efficiency. Thanks to Loupe’s software libraries and infrastructure, the project was completed in weeks instead of months. The system was successfully shipped to trial customers, functioning reliably without on-site support — setting them up for future success with their innovative solution.
